Licensing confusion

You are right because I just noticed this as part of the license that Philharmonia uses:

So, it's open season on sharing and repackaging the Philharmonia samples.

Yup, and has probably been since day one. The thing that kept me from using more of them in SSO was the fact that the samples aren't easily accessible and mappable.

Yea, I've just used Philharmonia for solo viola staccato and I had to pull individual notes out of the multi-note phrases that they offer. It's a lot of work.

I've been messing with Kontakting the No Budget Orchestra which has odd naming conventions. I found the free "1-4a Rename Super Batch Renamer" and it lets me do all kinds of things including going from file names like '3_A' to 'A3', which makes life way easier. I can't remember off the top what the Philharmonia files are named, but this probably will help rename them all. Though obviously that doesn't help pulling out individual notes.

As far as the license, I'll probably just say I don't care and make Kontakt versions after reading what you guys have been saying. I doubt they will ever know or care. However I will get hammered for it on VI Control as there have been a couple discussions about it including taking down the instrument of one guy who used them even though he got permission from the Philharmonia. So I won't mention it there, probably won't advertise it at all, just do it.

I was actually thinking of writing some software to do file renaming. Does the one you mentioned handle regular expressions and does it permit a dry run where you can see what the files will be called before committing to the changes? Is it command line driven or is there a graphical user interface?

Or, to keep people from giving you a hard time, you could direct people to read the actual license, specifically the part I quoted above which, to me, appears to makes it clear that you are free to repackage and redistribute the samples.

With creative commons licenses, you can not add extra restrictions but you can remove restrictions.

It shows you what the new files would be named as you change your input. I've only used the basics, it seems to do all kinds of things I don't really understand, but not sure if it does exactly what you want. Seems more advanced than other similar programs however.
