Nice article! I've grabbed all of them and have been noodling with them since yesterday. There is indeed some charm to Cyclone's old-school-ness, but it really does require a bit of a re-wire of one's brain in comparison to modern stuff. Not too bad, though. Kind of like my receiver, actually...
I think the S-YXG50 is a great sort of "upgrade" if one needs a beefed up general MIDI set. The one thing I can't figure out is how the XGedit software works; I think I'm missing a driver or something, but I'm not too keen to go clicking around downloading things. Any suggestions? The only option available in the MIDI setup in XGedit is the Microsoft synth, no Yamaha to be seen. And how exactly does that interface with one's DAW if the synth itself is a VSTi and XGedit is a standalone application? I can get to the standard 128 presets and the basics CCs with FL Studio's MIDI utilities (There's even a Yamaha preset that gives me some advanced stuff), but I feel like I'm missing out.
