Big +1 from me, and a good case in point. Vangelis has made more orchestral-sounding music with analog synthesizers than what all of us here have done with actual sampled instruments.

This is a very good point. My setup definitely came about in part from "pining" in certain directions, but fortunately it seems to have worked out (mostly) in my favor with only a few true regrets. A lot of that, though, is due to finally just saying, "I have to learn how to use what I have now; buying more and more will not make me a better composer."

The wonderful thing about finally just buckling down was rediscovering all the samples I had for years and learning how to get the most out of them. All of a sudden there was new excitement in something such as the basic Kontakt library, and more practical ways to satisfy the need for novelty. Rather than spending and risking spinning my wheels, I was practicing and honing skills and creating music I was happy with; all of which feeds back in the form of inspiration to continue.
