Hello. My name is Terry, I'm a self-taught composer. I come from Redford, Michigan, though I got started musically back down in Texas - at first, just a passing interest, an aside to becoming an actor and a writer - but now, as I've progressed and listened to more music and written more music, I've become set on making something of myself as a professional media composer. I discovered our good host Mattias through using some of his SSO samples, which were marvelous for a beginner. I used the samples in this awful online "DAW" called AudioSauna. It's still around! I loved some of the synth patches I made. Alas, I lost them all to computer troubles in February. (Excepting the ones I'd already uploaded to Freesound.) I used them for a score a year or two ago. I remember becoming increasingly frustrated with its limitations, layering in stuff from FreeWaveSamples.com, removing one particular strings sample that bugged me, anything I could do to improve it. (This soundtrack was later remastered.)
I don't use it anymore. My software of choice right now is Edirol Orchestral - with SONiVOX's strings. I got them back when they were $1. I despise how much computer room they take up - I end up just putting the MIDI track to the SONiVOX and rendering a take or two of each strings section individually and then mixing it back in with Edirol, linking everything together with reverb. (More than two instances of SONiVOX crashes Reaper, you see.) I've been exploring a lot of soundfonts as well, recently, so as to up my brass game without needing to actually, y'know, spend money. XD
I have a Soundcloud, though it's currently very sparse. I'm working on portfolio tracks. I can, however, share with you all some music from my most recent project, which can be found on this private playlist here. This comes from a project with my Finnish friend (who also did the earlier mentioned project). The playlist I am only leaving up until July 5th - there's stuff on it that, while I am proud of it, are attached to films and such that would not look the greatest on a C.V. (Though I may grab them to rearrange as portfolio music.) It was all written in a week-and-a-half, almost a piece a day. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about them, if - for whatever reason - you have them.
That... covers everything, I think.
Yours, Terry.
