Looped SSO!

Well, as I believe I have said before, if an "official" SSO 2.0 is ever to see the light of day, someone needs to take charge and start working on it. Anyone who decides to do so has my blessing and best wishes. Personally though I lack both the required time and motivation to revisit and update a project that's almost eight years old (I started working on SSO in late 2009).

So in other words, if you're waiting for me to do it, don't hold your breath

I might be willing to do it, though it won't be anything fancy. Mostly just taking the things other people have already created and merging them into a single download. Let me look through the various additions and see what makes sense.

I have a big advantage over you: you've already created VPO.

I'd suggest a good principle for SSO 2.0 is, "Don't change anything that's already there."  The goal isn't to go looking for the best samples available.  That's what VPO is about.  This is for people who like the way SSO sounds and want to keep using it, just with added features like key switches and looped sustains.

I agree to some extent, but I do suggest the addition of the updated brass and staccato violas I created for inclusion in future updates of SSO.

Edit: maybe even the trill and tremolo violins as well.

Then one thing leads to another and six months later peastman finds himself up to his eyeballs trying to find just the right marimba and hand chime samples, and adjusting them to match the ambiance of the rest of SSO 2, because that's seriously the "only" thing left to do... well, maybe a solo bass clarinet, just in case... and...

I'm not too particular about marimbas and hand chimes.  The one part I really wish we had better samples for is chorus, because the ones in SSO kind of suck.   But I've searched, and as far as I can tell there simply aren't any decent free choral samples.  If anyone knows of any better ones, please let me know!  Even then, though, I'd probably try to get Paul to add them to VPO rather than doing anything with them myself.

I'd rather stick with the current brass.  Paul has already put the new ones into VPO, so they're available there.  But maybe someone actually prefers the old ones, so I don't want to take them away.  Additions are fine, though, so I agree with adding the staccato violas and tremolos.

I'd be willing to add new chorus samples to VPO if you ever find any. Samulis has requested control over the attack of the chorus samples which made me realize I could actually create articulations for the chorus samples (what I've called sustain, normal, staccato, accent).

I actually managed to make a male choir patch by sampling myself in layers once (I think 8 layers recorded in stereo with me moving around the room each take and altering my voice quality slightly to be a different "person"). It came out pretty funny sounding, but the method does work...
