Small percussion library WIP

Last week I began sampling all the small percussion instruments I have lying around, plus various household objects that I've noticed to have potentially useful percussive qualities.

This is a very early version and there's more stuff to come (various shakers, maracas, sleigh bells, another tambourine, and more) so be patient. For now I'm releasing the samples under a CC BY-NC-ND 2.5 license but they will be CC BY-SA once finished.

Here's what's in the pack so far:

Triangle (mute/open hits, rolls)
Handbell (hits)
Tambourine (horizontal/vertical hits, shakes)
Toy cymbals (clash, suspended hits)
Glass bowls (hits)
Claves (hits)
Drum sticks (hits)
Wind chimes (jingling, individual notes)
Steel tray (hits)
Steel pan (hits)
Pringles tube (3 types of hits, flams, rolls)

All hits except the wind chime notes have three velocity layers (p/mf/ff) and three round-robins. SFZ format (wav), 24 bit, 44.1kHz, mono. The samples are NOT normalized right now, I'll deal with that once I'm sure I don't want to replace anything.

I love the fact that you're putting lots of found objects in the lib. I was impressed by some of the junk percussion in the soundtrack when I played Deponia a while back, and a brief Google trip reveals that found object music is actually a thing.

The regular percussion is pretty good as well. Having more sets of clean samples complete with velocity layers and round-robin is always nice. I, for one, have used a factory Orchestral Percussion Kit for way too long, and some of the sounds are getting a bit old and boring. As someone looking to mix things up, I definitely appreciate this.

I know what you mean, for some stuff I have (over)used the old Westgate percussion freebie for almost a decade now.

As for found percussion, it struck me that I need to go out and buy a small can of Pringles, sample it and pair it with the bigger one. Pringles bongos! Pringos? Bongles?

Pots filled with a small amount of water can make weird sounds that can be used too -- like, you fill it with a layer of water on the bottom, hit the side with your finger and then move the pot and the changing water location makes interesting sounds.

Freezing two small baggies filled with a small amount of ice into a sheet the size of a baggy (think, 6"x6"x0.25") and then hitting them together makes a sound that's a cross between two rocks, and two pieces of hardwood. Like ceramic. Not sure if these are particularly practical but it could be useful for niche sounds where you just need interesting sounds

I think I have a touristy steel drum from the 70's that I sampled a while back and never got around to doing anything with that might fit into this collection very well. Let me know if you're interested, Mattias!

Cool! Yeah, it's super dry, close-mic'd, stereo. 4x RR with an extra take. There's also a sampled pie tin being hit with a mallet at a few vl's too, I forgot.
