The U-110 not that great to be honest. It was revolutionary for its time, but nowadays it's just a primitive rompler among many others. You can get them for real cheap though (paid ~$40 for mine) and it has a few useful sounds. The D-110 is a much cooler unit. It's an actual synth and can do a pretty good D-50 impression as well as some warm, rich analog-type sounds.

Depends on how much older. I'm using XP SP3 for my RMM2 and I had no issues installing it on a Phenom II X4 (which is super-duper OP for XP, you don't really need anything more modern than that) with sata drives and whatnot. Win 98 might have been a different story though.
