My concern is that the key velocity will get in the way of the crossfading-
The way I have it set up, key press velocity only affects volume. It has no effect on which samples play. The CC#11 only affects cross fade. It has full control over which sample plays. I can play the low velocity samples loudly, by a hard keypress and low CC#11 setting or I can softly play the high velocity samples with a soft key press and a high CC#11.

That's an interesting idea. I can think of a way to make that work even by re-using a single velocity layer worth of samples. It's so temping to go back and add that to all the patches I already have. Maybe that's something for a version 3.0 otherwise I'll never stop tweaking version 2.0.
