Otto, you're the one who started this thread, do you have any further ideas of how to do this with multiple DAWs? Not really, no. Can't think about anything other than MIDI stems and agreed-upon VIs that do not use DAW-specific features (like Logic's Articulation ID) but only the MIDI data. I hope the track naming can be sorted out somehow. (10-17-2016, 07:06 PM)Michael Willis Wrote: I have a few other crazy ideas, but I'm not sure how well they will work. What if just one person "owns" the DAW project and other people contribute by sending midi snippets (or possibly even audio clips), instead of trying to rotate the entire project? The would still require agreement on how the midi data should be structured (single file with multiple tracks vs. multiple files each with a single track, when does each part come in, etc.). It might also feel too constraining for those who are contributing musical ideas without being able to have their hands on the audio processing. Then there's the question of how to maintain continuity across the entire piece of music... The thing is, all of the above is perfectly viable. It boils down to the decisions on how a particular round-robin project is carried out. Personally, I'd go for MIDI stems, pre-agreed upon VIs, a pre-agreed upon DAW setup (panning, reverb, etc.) simple enough for everyone to set up in a few minutes, and finally simply tasking one of us with mixing and mastering the finished composition. The important bit is that everyone is tracking through a setup that sounds (about) the same with the same MIDI. Switching VIs on already recorded MIDI parts has a definite chance of messing up the performance. As to continuity, I'm pretty sure the best way to learn maintaining continuity is to practice. That's one of the reasons I'd love for this to work. Also, I need to go find a priest, since you guys apparently decided to start practicing necromancy.
