Some scripts/systems may rely on other inputs to determine slur character (e.g. velocity or an extra cc to determine slur length).
I did not have the notes overlapping but I tried and didn't notice any difference. I messed with some settings though and I enabled a "true legato" setting. It seems better now but this maybe due to ear fatigue so I will check it again later. However I post it here for your curiosity.
