Greetings fellowship of the artificial strings (among others and not limited to)! This forum has got me all warmed up about composing again and I enjoy being all curious about virtual instruments. (samplers, sfz programming, reaper automation etc is a happy mess in my head right now!)
Anyway, I am writing a part for strings where I use block chords and I have a hard time making it sound realistic. I cannot seem to find a golden spot between the hard attack of a low attack setting and the pumpy effect of a higher attack setting.
As my first attempts was with an ensemble patch I tried to split the parts to dedicated section patches to fine tune the ASDR envelopes but I had no better results.
So is there a way to get a good legato by utilizing the attack and release or should I look for something else? Maybe use some portamento layers? Or a synth?
What are your hard earned tips on that matter (which I very greedily ask for...)?
