Thanks for the explanation Paul, that does indeed make a lot of sense! Looking at the bigger picture you probably made the right choice. I was just wondering what your thinking here was, as a staccato articulation often sounds radically different from a shortened sustain one. E.g. you can never get that clearly defined BLAT from a brass instrument by just truncating a sustain sample because... well, the instrument in question isn't playing a staccato like a staccato is played, you're just removing a part of a longer note. Maybe not a big deal though, and like I said I understand why you opted to do this.
Note to self: look into faking up some brass and woodwind staccatos, because these articulations are hard to come by in the free realm.
