RE: Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra additions - Mattias Westlund - 10-10-2016

For some reason I decided to revisit the Philharmonia samples, to see if there's any potentially useful bits in there that I've missed in the past. My choice fell on the bassoon samples, and here's what I came up with:

Philharmonia Bassoon

I'm sad to say these samples are far too inconsistent to be of any serious use though, and I also ran into some issues with RR's not triggering in the staccato patch -- no damn idea why! -- so I gave up. In case anyone's interested I uploaded the samples, but don't expect wonders.

Another experimental instrument, this time based on the MSLP solo cello samples (though stereofied and ambience'd). Legato and staccato articulations, with a 3 piece layered cello section as a bonus.

Same issue here as with the bassoon above -- RR's are bugged and won't trigger properly and I can find no apparent cause for this. Ready to give up on the whole sfz mapping thing :|

I think I know the cause of the problem. I came across this myself when mapping samples. When dealing with round robin, I've found that if the mapping of the samples doesn't line up from one group to the next, there can be problems. For example, looking at your Cello Staccato sfz file:

--- RR3

<group>
seq_length=4
seq_position=3

<region>
sample=Samples\CE STAC F 014.wav
lokey=c1
hikey=d#1
pitch_keycenter=d1

<region>
sample=Samples\CE STAC F 031.wav
lokey=e1
hikey=f#1
pitch_keycenter=f1

-- RR4

<group>
seq_length=4
seq_position=4

<region>
sample=Samples\CE STAC F 006.wav
lokey=c1
hikey=c#1
pitch_keycenter=c1

<region>
sample=Samples\CE STAC F 018.wav
lokey=d1
hikey=e1
pitch_keycenter=d#1

The two bold areas should have the same key mapping. Likewise the two italic areas should have the same key mapping.

Ah, so THAT's what's causing it. Hmm. This must be a Sforzando issue though because it seems to work as expected on all other sfz-capable samplers/sample players I've tried it on.

I plundered the works of fearless leader again.

It was something a re-release of the earlier VSTs as a Rompler.

Odd question as I'm looking at doing Take 2 aka less screwed up take with looping and round robins... What was actually looped? Somehow I seem to have ended up with unlooped sustains for the violins, but the ones in the sfz are clearly looped, what samples have I been using? So confused.

Huh... I most definitely didn't loop the sfz's. Maybe your samples got truncated? What you are probably hearing is the bow changes.

Lol oops we are on different wavelengths. I got some complaints about the Sonatina string sustains not looping and that confused me. Don't worry I'm not looping the VSCO2.

Hahaha wow, that was an epic fail on my part. I get the e-mail notifications and I sometimes miss the title of the thread.  Rolleyes
