RE: A themed compilation album? - Otto Halmén - 03-23-2017 I'm not sure limiting the soundset for the tavern project is all that essential, especially if we're allowing for different settings. It's more important for a symphonic suite where the individual parts are more closely connected. RE: A themed compilation album? - Otto Halmén - 03-23-2017 I was just talking about continuity. Inspiring limitations should definitely be taken into consideration. RE: A themed compilation album? - Chris Spyratos - 03-23-2017 So we are aiming more at a folk ballad style? My first impression was that of a folkish flavored orchestral score. More like the background music in a game. RE: A themed compilation album? - Michael Willis - 03-23-2017 (03-23-2017, 05:13 PM)oGatoulas Wrote: So we are aiming more at a folk ballad style? I think we're converging on an idea that people would be free to pick a style, just that it has to be vaguely related to the theme "Tavern Music" RE: A themed compilation album? - Otto Halmén - 03-23-2017 Either is fine, really, as long as it's something that could work as music for a tavern scene in a film or a game. That was the idea. Still not 100% decided on what I would write, but I was thinking about contributing something in this vein: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i25fgxnjiuyb9nw/vsjo.mp3?dl=0 RE: A themed compilation album? - Samulis - 03-23-2017 (03-23-2017, 02:07 PM)Mattias Westlund Wrote:(03-23-2017, 09:41 AM)Samulis Wrote: Anyway, I think it'd be a fun challenge to put together a little SFZ set as "phase one" of our master-plan. I can throw in some super secret samples or something, maybe convince my friend who plays mandolin to sit down in front of a few mics. The harp is still out there, I can get a copy of the samples if we wanted to move forward with that. I've actually been working with the performer to get a new sampling of his new harp in stereo, but he's been very busy. I can toss in some recorder samples (Kurt did a particularly nice redo of some free samples I had online, which I have more of on here, as well as the new samples from VSCO 2 Pro), and if I can get my hammered dulcimer up here, I can probably record some stuff on it too. I'm fine with whatever we do. RE: A themed compilation album? - Mattias Westlund - 04-02-2017 Someone needs to make a true hammered dulcimer sample lib where everything is majorly out of tune and the performer keeps missing the strings and knocking the instrument over. Even more fitting for a tavern theme. Let us know if you need us to crowd fund you some booze, Sam. RE: A themed compilation album? - Samulis - 04-03-2017 The hammered dulcimer just reached me earlier this week... recorded some wonderful bowed drones. I'll need to take it into the school during a quiet time to properly record, my apartment is too noisy. https://instaud.io/R0k Save that library idea for next May, Mattias. Unfortunately I don't drink, but I am sure I can recruit a willing soul. I think more refreshing and unusual would be a *sober* dulcimer library, as I've yet to meet a dulcimer player who *wasn't* hammered. Or maybe that was just me that was hammered because it was the only way I could get through their performance... But on a non-distracting note, VSTBuzz offers a free dulicmer library: http://vstbuzz.com/freebies/charles-dulcimer/ I've dowloaded it, but never worked much with it... Kurt |
