Looped SSO! - sig-ex - 03-12-2017 I guess there’s no better place to announce this mod of SSO. Better 6 years late than never! ![]() Here's an attempt at looping SSO. Also released as CC Sampling+ 1.0. Demo at SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/sig-ex/sad-instrumental-arrangement Download(s) here (so far): Musical Artifacts: https://musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/456 More info here: https://sig-ex.com/2017/03/12/sso-se-looped-sso-instruments/ I'm still waiting to get it uploaded elsewhere and demo clips are still to be moderated at freesound.org. Just a heads up, some samples, especially solo and low pitched instruments, were challenging to loop. So some patience might be necessary. ![]() Cheers! sig-ex RE: Looped SSO! - Otto Halmén - 03-12-2017 (03-12-2017, 05:53 PM)sig-ex Wrote: Better 6 years late than never! Well, there's more than one freeware lib out there now, but SSO still has something of a distinct sound, so I could imagine some people out there might still prefer it. ![]() RE: Looped SSO! - peastman - 03-12-2017 Quote:so I could imagine some people out there might still prefer it. Me, for example! ![]() RE: Looped SSO! - Paul Battersby - 03-13-2017 Looping all the SSO sustain samples is a major accomplishment. I can certainly understand the amount of hard work necessary to get that done. Good job! RE: Looped SSO! - kneedeep - 03-13-2017 This might be very helpful! I prefer SSO, too. Will check it out. RE: Looped SSO! - Mattias Westlund - 03-13-2017 Wow, nice work! And you haven't lost your mind either? I'm impressed ![]() RE: Looped SSO! - sig-ex - 03-13-2017 Thanks everyone! :-) I don't know how to do formatting for multiple quotes, so I just use "@" style: @Otto, peastman & kneedeep, Having used SSO for years, I also agree. SSO has its character, and perhaps it grew on many of us, being what we have for free for a long time now. @Paul Thanks! A lot of trial and error (and caffeine & sugar... ) This might be useful advise to a fellow looper: Maybe obvious, but use the best headphones/speakers from the start! I made a mistake of using my default bassy consumer headphones, at first. Then later discovered with an ATH-M70x that there were clicks that I missed. BTW, I attempted to copy your key switching style so that users might easily switch between libraries (VPO). @Mattias Thanks for creating SSO in the first place! I may have lost my mind a long time ago though. :-) Cheers! I find key switches essential. I had created some for SSO a few years ago and made them publicly available but I don't know how many people noticed. RE: Looped SSO! - peastman - 03-15-2017 Quote:I don't know how many people noticed. I did! They are, as you say, completely indispensable. Especially after I figured out how to write a script in Logic Pro to convert articulation IDs to key switches, which makes them a lot more convenient to work with. I wonder if this would be a good time to release SSO 2.0? There've been a lot of enhancements to it released over the years, and it would be nice to bundle them all together in a single download. That's interesting, I consider VPO to be the successor to SSO. I'm still kind of new to using SFZ samples, and Paul started working on VPO soon after I started exploring the idea of using SFZ instruments, so I never ended up using SSO much. I do admit that it has a different sound to it: SSO has some stage presence baked in, while VPO much more dry out of the box, and there are probably a lot of other nuances that I haven't picked up on. It seems like there are plenty people who would appreciate an official version 2 of SSO, if somebody wants to own it. I'm guessing that Mattias has enough obligations right now that he doesn't need yet another project to manage. |
