Wow, I'm pretty sure I've used those exact words somewhere at least once. :O

Haven't been around much lately due to real life stuff, but I'm looking forward to this release! Glad it's almost here.

Guys, thanks for your kind words. Looks like I have already had my 15 minutes of fame with SSO so I guess I shouldn't expect too much from this project or anything else I might do in the future
Anyway, sorry for my absence as of late but I've been neck-deep in mixing and last-minute tweaks, as well as trying to balance that with being at least a decent dad and significant other. "DADADADADDAD! Look at this! This is so cool!" "I know honey, but..." "Yeah, yeah, I know. The music. Just let me know when it's done, OK?" I haven't had the heart to tell her that I will NEVER be done, generally speaking...

Well, I am WAY too late to this party and I should have listened to the music earlier when I had a chance. What I could still listen to, I liked. I like the story too.
Now, if you could only find an animator, or graphic artist. Even if it were only still images that would change as the music progresses, you'd really have a compelling short story video. Everything else is already there. Good music good story. Just needs some good visuals.

Thanks Paul! As for the visual side, that would indeed have been nice, but time is running out and since this is basically a zero budget project, I can't really involve anyone to do any animations or even illustrations. I need to put together something for youtube but I will probably just stick with the album cover. We'll see.
However, if there's anyone who'd like to have a look at the pdf that is to accompany the album, you can find a WIP version here. No, it's not a wonder of graphic design and was made in a word processor, but I'm seriously running out of energy here. Please let me know if you spot anything off like missing fonts or backgrounds or whatever!

Something that I'd like to find is a group of graphic artists or animators that give away their art the way many in the music world give away their music. I'd like to find someone to animate or illustrate my music too. One comment on the story. I had to loop up "corsair". I learned a new word so that's a good thing, but would "pirate" perhaps be a more common word that would work? Just a thought. As for the PDF, colour, font, graphics all look good (don't forget to fill in the duration of each chapter).

There is actually a lot of artists and photographers that more or less give their work away for free... next time you do a google image search for something you need, make sure to sort it after Usage Rights -> Labeled for reuse with modification. Or why not check out pixabay.com, which is a HUGE respository of high quality CC0/public domain images.
As for "corsair" I've been familiar with the word for decades even though I'm not a native English speaker. "Pirate" makes you think peg legs and parrots and Jack Sparrow, whereas corsair has a somewhat more exotic feel to it, which felt was more fitting for this story.

See the video for Playing With Autumn Leaves I made myself by "animating" Creative Commons images. I'm talking more about custom art work or animation for a song. I'd like to find someone who would enjoy taking a song and creating art work or animation specifically for the song. On second thought, I agree. Corsair it should be.

Everything is sounding (and looking) excellent! QUESTION: In "Harren's Hope," that violin in the beginning, is there any legato (real or simulated) going on there? Any sort of legato programming going on anywhere in the track, in fact? I'm curious because I've been thinking a lot about how, when, and what kinds of legato to implement in a VO setting. Newer sample libraries typically have it covered, but much of my stuff is older and I have to use SIPS (Kontakt script) or simply do without. "Harren's Hope" is very expressive in terms of note transitions (all your stuff is, but it's one example at least) and I'm curious as to how you are getting those results. |
