The central themes here seem to be to give music making to the masses and to make music ourselves. Giving away the tools to make music goes against everything a true capitalist society stands for. One should pay and continue to pay for everything required to make music or Spitfire and EastWest will not long exist. Shoot with mandatory healthcare as practiced in the US we are arguably now required to pay for the very breath that we use to exist to play instruments. All things of value should be sold and there should be no public domain. Shoot the EU is apparently trying to force anyone who links to a news story to pay for that link.
Things are even being pulled out of the Public Domain. Look up 'Its A Wonderful Life' for a bizarre example. Also Congress has the authority to take anything out of the public domain, anything. Trust me Mickey Mouse is coming out if it ever goes in. Yet we crazy people are pushing stuff into various free licenses and urging everyone to make music for free. One of us is going to lots of trouble to give away all kinds of cool new samples while another is trying to create ever cooler sounding strings with existing samples and another is trying to create an expansive and coherent orchestra out of what exists for free.
On the other hand most of what we do is classical and traditional oriented and lets be honest electronica or whatever the cool kids are doing now to all be different together is anathema to this forum. We create traditional music and explain traditional music theory to the music impaired (thank you!).
So what are we visionaries, traditionalists, rebels, crazy?
