Yeah once the sfz/vsts get done people will get interested I suspect. As much as I like Kontakt, the intersection of the twin circles of I own Kontakt and I want whatever bigcat is pushing is somewhat small. The intersection of the I'm broke and the I want free vsts/sfzs circles is much, much larger.

As an example the NSynth samples Kontakt stuff I did had some interested folk, largely marketed as retro. The VST choir version has been mentioned all over the interwebs and has a fair amount of action for me, likely on VST4Free and is hosted several other places, Youtube vids all that stuff. Now if only someone had a really nice harp vst they wanted to push... but you cant have everything! ;P

The pipe organ is the one in VSCO2 and the Harp is the EW2 that you already did the VST for correct? Don't want to duplicate stuff we have already done.

Yes, the pipe organ and EW2 harp are the same. Some of the percussion comes from the same place as the VSCO 2 CE samples, but are mostly different mic positions/samples chosen fresh for the library.

I'll be doing updates about twice a week for VCSL, so the library will be growing. The GitHub shows a history of what is added and when. Easiest way to keep up to date is to use the GitHub Desktop app and sync the repository to your desktop. Then whenever an update goes out, you just open that app, have it download the latest update, then you're good to go.

Good to know on the percussion. As you know concussion, I mean percussion confuses me no end. Somehow I always thought instruments had to be mistuned to progressive semi-tones. Next someone is gonna start singing that way...

I ordered another microphone along with a dual mic mount, and I've been reading about NOS stereo recording technique. After the new gear arrives I'm going to try sampling the clarinet. If it turns out suitable, I do know people who play several other instruments, so I might try enlisting their help in contributing.

Big Cat, I was considering making sfz files, but over the last week I've been pondering about some of the annoyances of the sfz format and thinking about developing a sample playback plugin with a different file format. It's a long and arduous tale, but the short is that I dreamed up what I wanted in an ideal virtual instruments tool, and eventually realized that somebody had already developed it and called it HISE. Do you know much about HISE? It seems like if we want to use these samples to make free virtual instruments, it could give us a way to avoid forcing people to use Kontakt, and not have to mess around with sfz format.

HISE has been around for a few years. It's pretty powerful, but it's not yet ready for commercial 'prime-time'. Might be fine for freeware though, worth a shot!

I still have not decided if I will be making any instruments myself. I might do a quick rough pass with the SFZ automapper on some of the more important instruments and let anyone else give it a go if they feel up to it.

It would be great if someone did a HISE version. I've tried HISE in the past and quit in frustration. I spent hours and couldn't get anything to work. Not a sound. It might be better now and I'm really bad at scripting and such so it might just be that I couldn't figure it out and you can. Its worth a shot and I hope you can.

So far the piano, harmonica (at least the one I did, really need to do the other one), the saxello and the ocarina seem to be the big hits with the VI-C crowd. The later two mentioned on the samplecast. Not sure if they are important though.
