Well I don't know about that, but I've found myself thinking when browsing freesound for this or that obscure instrument (or other!) sample: oh come on, hasn't ANYONE thought to sample that? Which makes me think that the more stuff you sample the better. Who knows, for someone else those wok pans I just sampled on a whim might just be exactly what they're looking for?

Definitely relatable! I have a whole bunch of Irish whistles that I've been meaning to sample properly for ten years now. Through a mic they just never sound like they do in person. That breathy, ethereal sound turns into a harsh earsore no matter what you do.
