It's been a while since I've been able to sit down and compose, both for professional and artistic reasons (i.e. running a sample library company, and being lazy). Well, a few weeks ago I sat down and spent about three days writing over 20 minutes of music for a game project I've been meaning to do some work on for a long time. I can't disclose any particulars except that the game features adventuring.

One of my stumbling blocks I have faced is my desire to use as many of my own creations as possible. It turns out, despite VSCO 2 being easily my favorite sample library, it isn't suitable for everything all the time. So, EWQL HDD goes back in the tower and I remind myself cheesy epic stuff is okay and we're off to the races.
I also got to collaborate with Etherealwinds for the vocals on this; this was after we had done the sampling session and just before release of the library. I wanted a personal touch, so he agreed to perform some extra phrases for the piece. I also had the bowed psaltery lying around and felt the need to use it a bit (I actually used the strumstick in the score as well, but in a different track).
I wrote another silly string piece with Hollywood Strings while working on the score. A solid chunk of the time was spent loading instruments-

And this popped out as well, a little early Renaissance-inspired four-part-

In other news, I finished and recorded my third brass quintet (four freakin' movements!), which I've appended to the soundcloud playlist. I think I announced it on Facebook, but I couldn't find record of me mentioning it here, if anyone is interested in hearing it and hasn't already-
