@Mattias:
I feel like Iron Maiden still put out relativly good albums, no game changers or anything that get's me really going when I can just listen to the classics, but not totall utter shit (unlike AC/DC, who got really, really boring). Ah well still I think I should bring up once the money to go to one of their gigs, I heard it's still pretty amazing to singalong with thousands of metalheads.
What would be your recommendation for a starter Symphony X Album? I really wanna like them, cause they got so many cool ideas, but I can't totally get behind the corniness and theatric attitude.
Have you listened to "Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King" by the Dave Matthews Band? Despite being newer I think It's pretty good, it got a more rock orientated sound and some cool riffs, it's still the Dave Matthews Band but it doesn't really sound like Crush and is kind of optimistic, which crush is not really as far as I remember. https://youtu.be/8igCIXnaPPY
I think your situation is not that obscure, my music teacher in high school told us something similar, as well as my guitar teacher.
Sounds like have started and stopped listening to a lot of stuff, maybe you just need a new thing that really takes you. I had a similar problem for like a year or so and then I stopped trying to listen to music on the spot where I worked and always listened at a spot where I only listened to music and that helped a bit. But yeah, what helped for me, might not help for you.

These are pretty sweet, they kind of remind me of 90s Lucas Arts Adventures like "Sam and Max - Hit n Run". Though when you mentioned compositions, I thought automaticly of orchestral blues compositions and expected something widly different. Still nice though. Always when I try to write a blues, it feels kind of dull to me, like I'm just being cheesy.
