That's interesting, I consider VPO to be the successor to SSO. I'm still kind of new to using SFZ samples, and Paul started working on VPO soon after I started exploring the idea of using SFZ instruments, so I never ended up using SSO much.
I do admit that it has a different sound to it: SSO has some stage presence baked in, while VPO much more dry out of the box, and there are probably a lot of other nuances that I haven't picked up on.
It seems like there are plenty people who would appreciate an official version 2 of SSO, if somebody wants to own it. I'm guessing that Mattias has enough obligations right now that he doesn't need yet another project to manage.
