Hi everyone. The title is perhaps a bit misleading as I think any keyboard instrument, even a celesta, is appropriate subject matter for this question.
I'm curious how you approach mixing pianos, harpsichords etc., into your larger orchestral mixes. Many samples have an obvious stereo spread from left to right (low to high), I suppose to generate intimacy if you're going for that. One way, of course, is to eschew realism and allow said instrument its own space in front of everything else, but what if you want it to sit in a more room-specific place in your mix? I've had some luck simply narrowing the stereo field on these instruments, but I know not everyone likes that sort of thing. Still, it kind of seems like it's the only way.
