There's a couple of ways if the plugin itself won't let you do it.
1) Consult your midi controller manual, sometimes you can easily remap hardware functions.
2) Use a midi plugin that translates between midi CC# messages. IIRC pizmidi has one.
It might even be possible that your DAW lets you do thise natively, I seem to remember that Cubase has some such function. It's been years though so I can't be any more specific than that.
Thankyou. I'm using REAPER and found a JS plugin that does it. So looks like either cc1 (with translate to cc11) or cc11 itself can be used for dynamics on all patches. That's something I guess. That leaves the silly bug: when violin espressivo patch is chosen, the spiccato articulation button actuates, even though the sound is still sustain..just annoying, like the first and only ding in a brand new guitar!
