Well, I didn't mean jazz specifically or prog specifically, more like prog artists with jazz influences like King Crimson, Frank Zappa and maybe Jethro Tull (before they got all folky). Quite an eclectic mix of styles there that just felt very proggy to me

Two new tracks - the "Miniature" and "Encounter" - plus a remaster of "Conflict" for a fuller orchestra setup.

I listened to all 3. The 2nd and 3rd seem very well suited for a sound track which I imagine is where your musical interests lie. The first piece, which worked out well too, seems like an academic challenge due to the restriction of mapping a name to music notes. The other two certainly do project a feeling of motion and action moving forward. I can easily imagine them fitting in seamlessly with action sequences or a montage or something like that. It would be interesting to hear your music along with visuals for which a piece of music was intended.

It's true that mapping a name to music notes has restrictions, but it's also a marvelous hack if you don't have a melody at hand for instantly creating raw materials -- intervals taken care of, you need only figure out a rhythm. And creating a melody is easier when the name is nice and long (as, in this case, it was).

I wish I could show you the scenes that these tracks belong with. They're both for a JRPG, so "Conflict" plays during the battle, naturally, with "Encounter" as the character theme for the Cardinal.

Very nice track! Gave me an instant Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights type vibe. I really love the way it moves effortlessly between different moods and atmospheres, from curiosity and exploration to a sense of danger.

Thank you! It's interesting you should mention Neverwinter Nights also as back in February when I wrote the first few bars of it I was deliberately attempting to channel a Soule-esque vibe. That the transitions are good is the best possible thing you could say for my ego, I worked hard on them!

I can definitely hear the Soule influence in there, which I think is what triggered my "hey, this sounds like an old RPG!" response. There's a playfulness to the harmonies that is pretty typical of his work from the 00's (not hearing it as much in his later stuff) which gives the music a mysterious, almost jazzy vibe. It also reminds me of some classical composer that I can't really pinpoint right now. My brain wants me to say Mahler but I'm not sure that's actually the guy I'm thinking of.
