I'd say that Discover has better quality recordings than SSO (can't really compare it to VSCO2, since that's a different type of library), but other than that, SSO does most things better. It has 2x RR's on short articulations, velocity layers on some percussion, and at least some attempt at faking dynamics with a lowpass filters. Discover has none of that.

Honestly, though, I'm more disappointed with the lack of keyswitches, multitimbrality and multi-outs. I was hoping I could put this on my old laptop as a quick sketching library, just a single plugin for an entire orchestra. But nope. Gonna need some four dozen plugins to load up the entire thing (that is not much to write home about to begin with)! What a wasted opportunity, Spitfire. You almost had the be all, end all cheap/free orchestral sample library on your hands here, which would have gained you tons of goodwill and potential future customers. But you chose to be cheap corporate dicks.

Paul: You're right, there ARE keyswitches. Weird that they don't show up on the interface.

Let me know if you find a way to load different instruments onto different MIDI channels

You can set each instance of the interface to a different MIDI channel and have each instance set to a different instrument. Is that what you want or am I misunderstanding?

There'd be no point to setting each instance to a different MIDI channel since each new VSTi plugin normally responds to MIDI channel 1. Well, I guess it might be useful if you have a dozen or more MIDI controllers, but most people don't.

What I'm saying is, the fact that the Discover plugin has a MIDI channel selector AND offers me to set up a multitude of audio outputs when loading it, I thought it had 16 separate "slots" for loading instruments, which I could then route to their own audio outs. Much like Kontakt or TX16Wx or whatever samplers. But it seems the Spitfire VSTi can only load a single instrument per instance. I could be wrong though, as evident from my comments regarding keyswitches.

The interface is AMAZING. And... that's about it. Couldn't they AT LEAST add a second RR for spiccato? smh

Haha, that's true. One of its greatest strengths is the responsive design and the color-coded instruments/keyswitches. It is still great for a newb like me. Maybe I'm spoiled by VSCO and SSO Regarding the samples' "wetness", the orchestra was apparently recorded with a bajillion mics (for surround mixes and the like), so perhaps the full version has mics closer to the instruments, with less reverb?
