The horns with the filter removed sound comparable to the original SSO samples, but without the ambience of the original SSO samples. The original SSO horns sound a little crisper to me. It's hard to say with is better / more realistic. I did notice that the FF Horns with the filter removed have a greater range than the original SSO. Original SSO Sustain patch goes to C5, the FF horns with filter removed go to an F5.
I like the horn rips. I'll probably try to use them next chance I get, just because they exist and they are interesting. The way they play now though, there is a regular note played, then the rip. Is that how a horn "rip" is normally played (I'll have to ask my dad what he thinks of the sound - he was a french horn player)
For the rip samples, I figure it would be more useful if the samples were just the rip, minus that first note. I realize it's probably pretty easy for me to remove the first part of each sample to get just the rip if I want.
