It has occurred to me that what we are really doing is taking a piano and changing it's sound. So any note I hit, should play back at the pitch of the piano key that I hit, just with a different sound. So I've ensured I'm not transposing things. A C2 on the piano should be a C2 in whatever instrument sound I've chosen, provided that instrument is capable of playing that note.
