I don't know to what degree you are all using synths (if at all), but if you're anything like me and prefer lots of easily tweakable presets over designing your own patches from scratch, I can really recommend SynthMaster Player. It comes with 1250 factory presets in all imaginable styles. Yes, really. Most virtual synths have a tendency of being very electronica-centric these days, but SMP really covers a lot of ground and has Alchemy-style soundscapes and pads as well as late 80's/early 90's digital synth sounds in addition to the obvious analog-style patches. I've been using it for a couple of years now and it's great for those moments when you need a synth part and don't have time or patience for trying out 50 different plugins.
At $29 (actually only $17 as of this writing) I would say it's a no-brainer if you have ANY use for synths in your music.
