A bit of help with genre? - sayan - 08-27-2020 Hey everyone, So, I just uploaded a new track and I was hopping to send it to one of the channels which promotes music. A basic necessity is that I mention the genre of the track with as much specificity as possible. Although I can string a few descriptive words to fill out the genre section, I would appreciate some help in deciding the most suitable genre. Any help will be appreciated. This track is quite special for me due to the fact who i have written it for. I recorded a guitar solo after ages simply because I had to make it special. If you check the track out, do let me know what you think. Thanks RE: A bit of help with genre? - Mattias Westlund - 08-28-2020 Instrumental? Symphonic rock? It has elements of both orchestral and rock/metal so I don't know whether there's a specific genre that it would fit better into. Lovely track. We have two long-eared balls of floof here and when their time comes, I will probably feel the same way. RE: A bit of help with genre? - Paul Battersby - 08-29-2020 This is a very nice piece. I very much enjoyed listening to it. As for the genre, I'm no expert in genre descriptions but maybe modern classical or contemporary classical? Instrumental is too broad a term and generally not preferred (I asked). I have been using 'Soundtrack' as a genre for Soundcloud but again, this isn't really a soundtrack. He was growing old and I had been dreading the day for quite a while but no amount of preparation can actually prepare you for a thing like this. Even after a couple of months, I still haven't surpassed the stage of denial. Since, you already have heard the track, is the mixing passable as professionally done? I have a few queries, 1. Is the high end too harsh? I am asking this as listening to this mix on headphones aggravates my tinnitus quite a bit. 2. During the 'chorus' part, is the harp and the piano jutting out? If yes, is that jarring for the listener? 3. Are the drums too loud? Generally, in rock and metal mixes, the bass is gain matched with the kick and the snare sits on top but not too bright. I did not gain match the bass to the kick as the double basses and the low end of the celli tend to clash and left the snare a bit bright to cut though the strings. I just listen what sounds good to my ears and write what I would like to hear but unfortunately, everything needs to be classified these days. RE: A bit of help with genre? - peastman - 09-01-2020 Classical crossover? It's a pretty broad term that can cover anything that combines classical and modern elements. That's a wonderful piece of music. RE: A bit of help with genre? - sayan - 09-01-2020 (09-01-2020, 12:23 AM)peastman Wrote: Classical crossover? I have submitted the track with the working genre I have on the title of the track. They generally promote the trailer music and modern hybrid hard hitting stuff but rarely, they do make exceptions. Its been a couple of days and I am yet to hear back from them. RE: A bit of help with genre? - Chris Spyratos - 09-03-2020 Nice track! The fact that it develops as strictly symphonic and then the electric band comes with no introduction reminds me of theatrical works but unfortunately I am not aware of any specific genre. RE: A bit of help with genre? - sayan - 09-04-2020 Thanks I sent it to one of those channels. Lets see what they have to say. RE: A bit of help with genre? - PPH - 09-04-2020 Symphonic rock? Progressive rock? RE: A bit of help with genre? - sayan - 09-08-2020 (09-04-2020, 12:36 PM)PPH Wrote: Symphonic rock? Progressive rock? Not progressive but maybe symphonic rock. Either way, I had submitted this track for consideration and they said that it is not good enough for their channel. Something to do with genre, melody and mixing. So, I guess it doesn't matter now |
