Virtuosity Drums - New free sample library - Samulis - 07-03-2021

Hey folks,

I put together a new sample library with the guys at Karoryfer Samples for the KVRDC'21:

It's a Jazz drum kit library, though we also added GM-style percussion from VSCO 2 and other sources so that it'd be largely GM-compatible. It's compatible with Sforzando or ARIA Player (the GUI won't show up on Sfizz, but I suppose the patches should still work in theory).

There are also a bunch of other really cool entries, so consider checking everything out and voting on your favorites. Sadly not a ton of sample libraries, but a good amount of synthesizers and effects. Everything is by definition free and a lot of it is open source too:

Good to see you're still actively sampling. Good luck in the Developer Challenge!

Thanks! Yes, I have a good number of projects still in the works. Big things are just slow-going so getting to work on a smaller thing like this is a nice break. Smile

Cool kit, Sam! I tried it out briefly the other day, and it's got a good sound and a lot of features I'm excited to check out. Thanks for making this! I'm not really much for making my own jazz, but it's fun to play around with it as I practice and experiment with time signatures and such.

Thanks! DSmolken (who assembled the SFZ's) added a ton of awesome features to it; I had a bit too much fun with the 'epic' knob during development. Big Grin

You can definitely use it for stuff other than jazz too. I ran some of my 'vaporwave' tracks through it with great effect. Or, use it as a nice backing track to practice improvisation or whatnot.

Hey Sam, this is great. I've actually been working on some more jazzy stuff, so it's nice to see a new set of percussion samples for that kind of thing.

What's the license on the samples? Is it CC0 like VSCO Community and VCSL? I'm interested in arranging these samples into a kit for Drum Gizmo.

CC0 indeed! There's some license info on the KVR page; basically just requesting that people provide attribution and note any changes to avoid some of the confusion that has occurred with VSCO 2 CE.

Ports/alternate versions are absolutely welcome.  Big Grin

We're working on an update to the SFZ patches with improved muting and polyphony behavior, should be out today or tomorrow!
