Hi everyone!
I am planning to record some things with a guitarist friend of mine in the following months (if COVID-19 quarantine allow us to do so). I am not a guitarist so I don't have any amps and I don't want him to mess around with his amp till my house.
Which amp simulator are you using this days?
I thought in Amplitube 4 CS because is free and maybe fits the bill for us. I know that there are other options like Ignite Amps which involves to use an Impulse Response Loader but maybe that is overwhelming for my purpose. What do you think?

They are old but they might still be useful. No harm trying them since they're free.
I have not used them, but Lepou is supposed to be decent.

You can also try the free version of Guitar Rig. I use the full version and it's pretty good. Depending on what style you're doing, what is "good" will vary. If you're doing metal or rock, you may want to find a plugin of a Tube Screamer to put before the amp in your signal chain. I find the one that comes with Guitar Rig to be indispensable.

The Ignite Amps stuff is much easier to use than Amplitube. Amplitube is very convoluted and doesn't sound that great IMO. NadIR comes with several good impulse responses so that's nothing you need to worry about.
Then again, I don't know what type of guitar sounds you are going to be recording and Ignite Amps is mainly focused on high gain rock/metal tones. For lower gain stuff I can recommend the
AXP amps. LePou's stuff isn't bad but is getting a bit long in the tooth (the plugins are around 10 years old I think) and amp simulation has made some significant strides in recent years.
Whatever you do, don't spend any money until you have thoroughly checked out the free offerings. There are tons of good free amp sims and TBH some of them are just as good or better than commercial varieties.

I finally went for the Ignite Amps stuff. I picked the Emissary and the NadIR with some extra IR that I have found on the internet. I think that is more than enough for me, because I am not sure about the modelled pedals and the rest of the stuff that Ignite Amps has.
