If anybody around here is looking for a new collection of virtual woodwinds, this was just barely released:

https://librewave.com/sofia-woodwinds/

The author developed the plugin using samples recorded by woodwind players from Sofia, Bulgaria.
Nice! I'll keep it on my radar. Trills are definitely missing from my woodwinds... Did you buy it / know anyone who has a copy yet?
I'm a little puzzled by the web site. The author talks about "libre" or "free" software but is clearly selling the library. I have no objection to free or for purchase instruments, it just seems setting up a store on a site called "Libre Wave" is misleading.

I'm using it. To be fair, the trills are not recorded as such; instead the plugin alternates between pitches. I'm still experimenting with it, I can share my results if you are interested.

Yes, I wondered the same thing. By "free" he means "freedom"; the plugin code has a GPL license, and the samples have a creative commons license. I was kind of confused about the business model, David Healey's response was: "The way I see it with proprietary libraries, people share them and they get called pirates, with my libraries people will still share but they won't be called pirates. It's a bit of an experiment and I hope it works out well. So far I've paid for everything myself, if they don't make a profit then maybe I can use them to inspire others to crowdfund future libraries."

Edit: Here's the github project: https://github.com/davidhealey/librewave_woodwinds
Lol yeah he and I went around on this and he basically threatened repercussions if I used the samples for Kontakt or Maize instruments. We sort of patched things up and I respect his work, but they aren't CC in the way we think of CC and i would not use them in any projects to make CC instruments even in SFZ without permission. That said he was kind enough to release some nice Woodwinds and Brass samples with a CC0 license which I have been using and this is much appreciated.

Certainly, please do. Simulated is perfectly fine as long as it sounds good and is usable.

Do you know where we can download those samples?

The way I see it, this actually opens up a huge door for us free sample makers.  If we can use his scripting (if I understand correctly) then we can have a format to make sample librarys that is better than all previous free options (sfz, etc).  While kontakt will still be somewhat better, distributing samples through this hise engine with Healys' code would certainly reduce the number of emails I get about kontakt player folks trying to use the alpine libraries.
Cool idea. Here is where the samples are listed toward the top of the page. I'm not sure the ramifications of HISE. I'm no you as a scripter and I must admit my long ago attempts at using HISE were a disaster. I think with freebies they need HISE to run and can't be stand alone due to it using some sort of scripting from something copyright. I dunno anyway chack it all out before you use it, but it would be great to see Alpine in HISE! And trust me i hear you about Player questions! ;P

I just read through most of that thread. You knew about this project way earlier than I did! I had no idea that you had been corresponding with him for more than a year about this. That conversation really gives a better perspective on what this project is about (and the fact that David Healey is a wild-eyed idealist... Goodness knows we have too few of those in this world)
