On an unrelated note loving the train sounds. Made a Train & Whistle instrument stretching them both a bit.
Haha nice! Might be good on the harmonicas as well.

Good idea. I tried harmonica and recorder but the harmonic blew the recorder away. Now I just need to make the second harmonica instrument!
You gonna make the SFZs? Or let one of the other SC SFZ gurus do it...

I haven't really decided. I kind of just like the idea of putting all this out there and seeing what people do with it, but at the same time, throwing together some SFZ's probably wouldn't take all that long thanks to the automapper, at least on the 'normal' instruments.
It is an odd thing that, I think, most folks, though certainly not all, now think in terms of instruments rather than samples. Though to be fair I tend to think in terms of classical, soundtrack and pop/rock rather than rap / edm. When I was first looking at this world it seemed to be as much sample pools as instruments. Often the question now is 'Where can I find a good piano vst' rather than 'Where can I find piano samples'. It would be interesting to know how many folks would use the samples 'raw'.
The musicians I know can handle the idea of a keyboard hooked up to the computer that plays like a piano or a standalone keyboard or drumkit that they can plug a new instrument into after all it already probably has lots of presets. Bt I doubt any of them actually know what a sample really is.
Hey Sam, just hypothetically speaking, let's say I'm trying to decide between buying a single condenser mic, or getting another dynamic mic identical to the one I already have. The former would enable better frequency capture, the latter would enable stereo recording. If I had to choose only one of these options, which would you recommend?

Personally, I would choose stereo recording. It's almost an expectation now in sampling and lets you record with the mics farther from the instrument without an unpleasantly centered roomy sound. You can also experiment with mic'ing things in different places at the same time and blending them.
On the other hand, having a decent single condenser is a good thing to have, but you may find saving up more at a later time for one great LDC (perhaps the $300-$600 range) would give you the best results for a single LDC (although if you can find a used pair of NT1-A's, those are great solid mics which I used for several years and would recommend in a heartbeat).
Come up with a roadmap and write down where you are and where you think you are going. Buy mics accordingly.

For no reason in particular I was noting the big band / marching band stuff from Garritan and looking at the reviews that are kinda meh... Then I thought who do i know who is good at blowing into tubes made of brass and wood and hitting things with other things? Sam! I bet he could do an awesome Concert and Marching Band set. Just a thought.

There already are two saxes in this new library. Eventually will redo all brass and will probably do some marching brass eventually. The percussion section already has some marching snares, although no marching basses.
Sweet! I was thinking of a commercial library though, as I would rather transfer that lifeblood of every capitalistic society to you rather than Garritan.

I have considered it, but it is going to be a major operation to do right (true legato for all winds) and that means capital and a sophisticated engine. I am working on one of those two, but the other is always the catch. Even if I said yes now, it would probably be an easy two years before it reached market.
