Michael- Preferences yes, requirements no. Do whatever works for you!

I have previously called the instrument "Tubular Glockenspiel", but that too is a 'working title'. I believe we found a set in my parents church that was actually part of the organ supposedly.
Aww Sam, now you have me mulling over which exact notes I should sample on the clarinet in order to best capture the essence of each register, and which different articulations really make sense. As a clarinetist, there are a number of different nuances of how to play notes that don't seem to be accurately captured by the concept of legato vs. staccato. Then last night I found myself playing into the microphone self-critiquing. I'm really happy with the notes I'm producing in the lower end of the chalumeau register, the throat tones are ok but I wish I could get a more solid sound there, the lower end of the clarion register is sounding pretty good, but the on the upper end of the clarion register I keep getting this obnoxious breathy undertone for a brief moment before the actual note that I want comes in... then I was looking at blogs of professional clarinetists talking about how to correct the embouchure and properly engage the reed to avoid the undertone...

I really tried to avoid this madness about sampling and creating virtual instruments that has seemed to infect you, Bigcat, Paul Battersby, and others; but alas, I couldn't resist the bait this time and now I have the disease.

All I wanted to do was make my own music. Simple, right? Just arrange some midi tracks and show it off to people. Now that I'm this far down the rabbit hole there's no going back. Rawr.

Your first taste of sampling is like a gateway drug. Soon you'll be into the serious "drugs" and creating an entire orchestral sample library.

Naw, in order to do that I'd need people and instruments to sample.

Let's see... my wife just started playing violin again, my daughter plays viola, my daughter's friend next door plays contrabass, my sister probably still has her flute from playing in the school band... uhh... my sister in law was just lamenting that she wishes she still had an oboe to play...

Could somebody please kindly show me to the exit door of this madhouse?
Wait til you do Kontakt and decide to do a GUI, add Convo reverb, EQ, envelope controls, modwheel crossfade and ensembles to all those instruments...

Looking forward to your clarinet, violin, viola, contrabass, flute and oboe.... Tongue
Hey, what happened to this? No comments for a week? I spent that time practicing the altissimo and upper clarion registers on the clarinet. It's sounding a lot better now, I think I'm just about ready to start sampling it.

I'm working on the video walkthrough of SFZ and sampling in general... it's taking longer than expected. I hope to start the contest officially early next week!
Any rules regarding FLAC samples? Smile

I don't think SFZ players support FLAC... I believe it's only .wav and .ogg, unless that was expanded upon by Plogue or Cakewalk.
At least sforzando and LinuxSampler support FLAC. Is there a prominent .sfz player that doesn't support FLAC?
