As far as I have found, some free samples just aren't really good enough to loop without artifacts. Some samples are.

Consistency in sampled instruments is a very fine line, as one needs a certain amount, however too much creates synth or machine gun effects.

Some instruments will have better luck leaving unlooped, others will benefit from the looping.

As is, some samples do seem impossible to loop (F4 on the solo trombone is ridiculous), but I've started modifying the original samples using a few tricks which do make them loopable. Forcing the samples to be in tune from start to finish and making the samples longer, are two such tricks.

When I started my orchestral library project, I never intended to touch the actual samples. I figured I would be making simple changes at the .sfz level but I'm deep into messing with samples now.
